About Wasatch Advocates for Livable Communities
Wasatch Advocates for Livable Communities (WALC) champions community development in the Wasatch Region through programs and public policies focused on community planning, housing, local governance, and transportation. We believe that everyone deserves a safe, affordable home in a vibrant, connected community. Our work focuses on reforming outdated zoning codes, advancing mixed-use and sustainable development, supporting affordable housing policies, and ensuring all residents have a voice in shaping their neighborhoods.
We are part of a growing national movement to address the housing shortage, build equitable and opportunity-rich communities, and dismantle barriers that prevent people from finding a place to live.

The Membership Organizer is WALC’s point person for member relations and grassroots advocacy who grows and mobilizes our base. In partnership with the Executive Director, Policy Manager, and External Affairs Manager, you will manage the full member lifecycle (recruitment, retention, and engagement), run member‑facing events and programs, and coordinate with partners to grow our network. You’ll also recruit and train volunteer leaders, run phone/text banks, and move members to action on local and state housing campaigns.
This role is ideal for a detailed‑oriented, optimistic relationship‑builder who can lead our people‑focused organizing and systems‑focused advocacy.

Represent WALC with members and in the community; speak publicly as needed and support community outreach activities.
Organize monthly community-building events to support membership growth and engagement.
Support the design and creation of promotional materials and outreach materials to promote WALC’s membership program.
2) Organizing & Mobilization
Recruit and develop volunteer leaders; build strong relationships with members across neighborhoods and networks.
Coordinate volunteers for tabling and community outreach, workshops, member meetups, and partner outreach; cultivate and retain a high‑quality volunteer bench.
Run regular phone‑banks and text‑banks, relational outreach, and list‑growth tactics using our databases and tools.
Equip members to testify, meet with officials, write LTEs/op‑eds, gather petitions, and participate in hearings and public meetings.
Attend coalition meetings; provide partners with action alerts, scripts, and turnkey engagement tools; help identify leaders in key areas/districts.
Collaborate with the External Affairs Manager to lift member stories in media and with policymakers.
3) Data, Systems & Evaluation
Maintain accurate member/supporter records; create segments and pipelines in the CRM for recruitment, renewals, and leadership development.
Track membership goals and metrics (growth, retention, engagement, leadership ladders, action rates); contribute to grant reporting.
4) Web & Communications Collaboration
In concert with External Affairs Manager, coordinate website content and functionality to support membership and partnership programs (join/renew flows, benefits pages, event listings, resources).
Share campaign priorities and communications pieces with partners; provide feedback to ensure membership engagement.
