Remote position with some required in-person meetings


Compensation range: $30-$40/hour (Salary depends on qualifications)


The Utah Public Health Association (UPHA) provides leadership in professional development for public health professionals and students, advances public health practice, and supports policies that strengthen public health. Founded in 1916, UPHA is the largest public health organization in Utah and is an affiliate of the American Public Health Association. Members include public health professionals, health educators, doctors, nurses, community leaders and citizens committed to improving the health of Utahns. It is the mission of UPHA to address Utah’s public health challenges by empowering public health professionals, educating the community, and advocating for effective public health policies. 


Position Summary:

The Executive Director position is part-time (20–30 hours per week), with hours based on the current budget with the potential to increase hours as responsibilities and activities expand. The Executive Director reports to and serves under the guidance of the UPHA President, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Fundraising and Grant Writing (20% of time)
Leads fundraising and grant writing efforts. Works with the UPHA Board of Directors on sponsorships, donors, as well as membership recruitment, support, and retention. 

2. Administrative Leadership (25% of time)
Guides the organization’s operations, strategic planning, and engages with, supports and coordinates the work of the UPHA Board of Directors’ Units, Committees, and Sections. Oversees the UPHA staff and contractors to ensure effective day-to-day management of the organization to support the mission, vision, and values.

3. Financial Management (20% of time)
Manages and coordinates the budgeting, funding, and financial oversight with the Treasurer and Fiscal Unit. Ensures financial compliance, reporting, and audits. Provides the UPHA Board of Directors with updated financial reviews and audits.

4. Relationship Building and Workforce Development (25% of time)
Builds and maintains partnerships with various organizations, public health partners, and policy makers. Supports workforce development by fostering opportunities for students, early-career and seasoned professionals, and public health leaders within UPHA and at partnering organizations. Represents UPHA in coalitions that support its mission.

5. Advocacy (10% of time)
Leads policy discussions with the UPHA Board of Directors to identify annual policy priority issues and develop supporting advocacy materials. Represent UPHA’s policy priorities with policy makers and partner organizations.


Qualifications and Ideal Candidate:

- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field preferred.

- Leadership experience in public health, nonprofit management, or related sectors.

- Skilled in board relations, staff supervision, and team leadership.

- Knowledge of public health policy, systems, and community engagement.

- Proven ability to engage, support, and collaborate with a Board of Directors.

- Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, financial oversight, fundraising, and grant management.

- Strong communication skills, including public speaking and partnership building.

- Understanding of nonprofit compliance and reporting requirements.
