Development Director
The Development Director is a strategic leader responsible for sustaining and expanding the RRC’s $2.2M+ budget through government grants, foundation partnerships, individual and corporate giving, and major donor engagement. This role manages a growing development team, builds donor and funder relationships, and strengthens internal systems to support fundraising, and donor stewardship. The director is also responsible for supervising all aspects of the grant application and submission process, from research and proposal development to drafting and submitting. The position works closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and program leadership to ensure alignment between development strategy and organizational goals. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with a passion for producing seamless, high-quality events, engagement materials, and campaigns that enhance the donor experience. This is a hands-on role requiring ownership of both strategic planning and day-to-day logistics. This full-time position offers a 40-hour work week and full benefits. The annual salary is $70,000 - $77,000 and follows a Monday-to-Friday schedule. Benefits include health insurance, a retirement match, and a generous time-off policy for paid holidays, paid sick time, and paid vacation. The position qualifies for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
Reports To: Executive Director
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead execution of the agency’s annual fundraising strategy and multi-year development plan
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual and major donors, with a focus on unrestricted and campaign giving
- Lead campaigns including end-of-year giving, monthly sustainer program, and special events
- Partner with the Executive Director and the board on major donor engagement and legacy giving strategies
- Maintain segmented donor communications in partnership with marketing staff
- Supervise the grant calendar regarding government grant applications and foundation proposals
- Ensure timely submission of proposals and applications
- Collaborate with operations, finance and program teams to align budgets, outcomes, and narratives
- Maintain funder relationships and track proposal and grant application success
- Supervise development team members, supporting goal-setting, delegation, professional growth and other administrative duties
- Oversee donor database and systems, ensuring accurate records and timely acknowledgements
- Strengthen internal systems for gift processing, prospect research, and donor stewardship
- Collaborate with the marketing and other teams to align storytelling, campaign messaging, and donor communications
- Collaborate across departments to integrate trauma- and justice-informed fundraising practices
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, lived/professional experience
- Demonstrated understanding of the fundraising cycle and experience in managing and executing fundraising strategies and efforts
- 5+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit development, with supervisory and grant writing experience required
- Proven success in securing government and foundation funding, major gifts, and individual contributions
- Strong relationship-building, communication, and storytelling skills
- Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed, equity-centered, and community-driven approaches
- Experience with fundraising CRMs and grant management systems
- Ability to successfully develop and cultivate relationships with a wide variety of constituents
- Ability to interact with executive-level administrators, donors/prospects, and development staff, with an understanding of protocol and confidentiality
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT OFFER
- The employee must complete a criminal background check.
- The employee must obtain a 40-hour crisis counselor certification and submit it within 120 days.
- The employee agrees to a 90-day probationary period from the first day of working in their new position. After 90 days, the employee will receive a detailed evaluation of their progress.
- Employees must comply with the flu and COVID-19 vaccination policy.
